I've done a few routes in calderdale (mainly from the pages of STW) and while they've been good I don't remember any of them containing the fun looking stuff you see in the vids over there>>>>>> with Matt, Ed and Ben etc riding down properly technical steep sections. So are these cheek or have I been doing the wrong routes? If it's the latter can you recommend me some routes please

Some of the stuff just south of Halifax is (I reckon) even better!
sit on one hill, then look across at the other side of the valley, you'll see things that aren't on maps, old trails that have been lost and paths that never were. that's where you find the most interesting stuff
