I use them on cable gears, but not so much on brakes.
Keep the pad adjusters free to move and you should be okay
While you don't want to compensate for pad wear by adjusting the cable I've found they can be useful to fine tweak the cable tension so that the actuator arm responds immediately you press the brake lever. For that reason I'd leave them in place.

No. I 'preload' my BB7s with a tiny push of the actuation arm towards the lever before tightening the cable during initial installation, then never need to touch them. Adjustment for pad wear should be done via the dials.ย

This is what I've done. Partly as one of the inline adjusters was all seized up when I took it off, and it was just less faff to do full cable runs.
Strip-down & new cables & outers have them running sweet!
