my Mk4's have given up. i put some old F20's on my bike today and the grip is nowhere near as good as my burgtecs.
question is do i spunk £110 on MK5's, or go for the £40 plastic ones?
all the reviews are good, but if they are that good, why is everyone still paying treble for alloy?
I ride the burgtec composites. Wide size 11 feet and so far they've been great. No complaints this end about them
Another set of mk4s? I love em.

Also curious on how you managed to kill for good a set of Burgtecs.
Anyway, and for what it's worth, the composites are based on the tried and proven MK4 design, which you also seem to like. The new MK5 design, while it seems like an improvement on paper, still has a long way to go in terms of reviews and user feedback
DMR Vaults are gripper than the burgtec pedals if you are after pure out and out grip. mk4's can still be bought from leisure lakes ( were I got mine)
i probably could fix them, and maybe i will? buu tthey are few years old and well battered and bruised so just fancied some freshies...
Im just interested to read positives/negatives and opinions on composite vs alloy?
I'm a fan of composites. Got them on a couple of bikes and very happy with them. Seem tough enough and they are light and cheap. Not tried the burgtecs, though. I was hoping this thread was a PSA for some bargain ones as I quite fancy some.
I’ve had both types and currently have the composites on my Soul. Great pedals and I can’t fault them to be honest. Light, seemingly tough and grippy 👍🏼
If you have big feet the MK4 composite sit slightly wider (ie away from the crank arms) than the mk5s.. Burgtec don't have any plans (yet) to do a boost axle for the mk5s
Oh and on one set of mk5s already had to take the axle out/clean etc as was binding a little on the bush.
I like my plastic Burgtecs!
Probably my favourite flat pedals so far (tried quite a few). Saying that I've not had any flats that I hated (least favourite was the Hope F20).
Size 12 feet and none of my cranks have paint 🙂
I'd echo the favourable reviews already mentioned here, mine are great. Tough, light and cheap what's not to like.
If you get on with the shape of the MK4s you'll love the composite ones.
I don't like the shape of the Burgtec pedals - tried both the metal and composite ones, really like the look of the new deity deftraps. Anyone seen them for sale in the UK yet?
Hope F20s were lovely bling but felt horrid & slippy
mk4 alloy on one mk 4 compo on other both great feeling pedals
i'd be hard pushed to choose alloy over compo versions visa versa
yeah the F20s were improved when they brought out the updated pins but going back to them after bugtec they are far inferior.
took a punt on a pair of composites now anyway, £35 notes why not!
Even with updated pins! Heaven forbid what f20s were like pre updated pins

And here am I, looking at old and new Burgtecs while my Nukeproof Horizons simply refuse to die
always thought burgtec pedals are overrated albeit very reliable. ran mk4's for years and they sit right next to the cranks which ive come to realise i hate, seems the mk5's are the same. for me vaults offer more grip and a better feel, defo need a bit more looking after though.

Mk4s were available with a boost axle that moved them out from the crank, Mk5s have this as standard
Not a fan of the plastic Burgtecs, seem to have poor bearing life, developed play early and arnt all that grippy.
Not as bad as the OneUp composites though! None as good as the Horizon Comp IMO.
Still a fan of the Vault shape, just hated the reliability of them, I did find a bushing seller on eBay doing rebuild kits which have lasted substantially better than the crap DMR use.
Back on metal Horizons now, as they just work. Grippy, nice shape, reliable, polished face so they don’t look worn, great pedal.
I just took my Burgtec Composites off & replaced them with my older Azonic Americanos.
The hexagonal shape of the Azonics seems less prone to rock strikes than the Burgtecs, which have a few munted pins now.
I'm sure I remember reading something about the burgtec composites being recyclable.
Does anyone know anything about this?
Can't help but feel that EOL story for a plastic pedal v.s. alloy isn't all that great.
The Burgtec composite pedals have the platform made of glass fiber reinforced polyamide, just like most, if not all, plastic pedals in the MTB market. Nothing special about them that way.
So yes, the platform is recyclable to a point, but so is an aluminium platform
