Ribs are a real pain, literally and physically, can be 4-8 weeks depending how bad and where its broken\cracked, if you can sleep and cough\sneeze pain free consider yourself lucky....

Depends how bad it's broken, but usually you can get back on the bike for easy rides after a few weeks but you'll know when you can when it stops being too painful. Usually takes 4-6 weeks to fully recover though in my experience.

I've done mine twice and find the pain gets worse a few days after doing it before it starts to get better.

You'll self limit yourself quite well with a broken rib. Once you're moving around fairly normally then you'll find you can get back to some easy stuff on the bike and build up from there.

Decent pain releif will help sleep, but try and resist using it to mask pain to allow more exercise, there lies slower healing.

Cracked/bruised my ribs a couple of times, not sure as it was self diagnosed! A good 4wks before I got on bike, even then it was a pootle along sea front and could still feel them. Had another week off after that.

I broke 2 ribs down at Kirroughtree last week.. be about another 7 weeks off the bike for me (due to the age factor.. at 53 they take longer to heal), and yes, i have that annoying tickly cough as well.
Once you can inhale a good lungfull of air without any pain then I would say you are good to go... 8)

Six weeks to heal fully. It's not so much that you can bear the pain enough to ride, but what happens if you come off again before they've fully healed. The critical point is that your ribs are there to give the vital contents of your chest some protection, so if you take another nasty tumble and haven't got the protection and rigidity offered by a full set of patent ribs....
I know how you feel. I fractured mine (again) 3 weeks ago and still wake at night when I turn. If you're short of breath or coughing, you should get your doctor to listen to your chest. It's not unknown for an inner jagged edge to puncture a lung, leading to collapse or for the restricted breathing (due to pain) that follows a fracture to lead to infection due to an inadequately ventilated lung (apparently the reason why they don't advise "strapping up" the chest when you've fractured ribs any more).

I've cracked mine on 2 occasions (same place each time) and, as missingfrontallobe says ^^, you sort of self limit. Ibuprofen helps but don't go overboard as you'll only end up doing more than your ribs can take. First time mine healed in about 4 weeks, second time took a bit longer cos of the first injury. I've still got a lump of bone there.

Recovery will take about 6 weeks or so. Try taking some pain killers and anti-inflammatories and then get to work on breathing deeply to prevent infections, enjoy. 😆

Been 5 weeks for me so far. Still hurt.

Could be worse, your collar bone could be in 5 bits too 🙁

I've got two more pillows which I put either side of me in bed to try to keep me from rolling over in bed at night

Mine took around 6 weeks before I could off road proper but I could have a gentle potter around on the towpath after around 4.

Wouldn't it more more logical to ask a medial professional questions like these? 😕

Mine took about 5 weeks - was ok to do easy rides after about two weeks though.
Whatever you do though - don't sneeze
