Bear in mind, if conditions do suddenly go sub-Arctic, that you're about 10 minutes from a busy city centre, with lots of nice warm pubs.

Ahhh well, I was worried about the Clic forecast and despite some rough spells of weather it was still enjoyable so hopefully the bikefest will be the same...
Besides its mainly Bristol riders posting about the weather - we should be used to riding on muddy Bristol trails 😉

I forgot, I never ride the local trails when it's muddy anymore - that's what the road bike and Welsh Trail centres are for. We're all going to die in a mudfest 😈

So it's you LVIS guys who are responsible for ruining the trails 😥

It's not just the mud though, persistent rain / bad weather keeps the spectators away and takes some of the vibe away from the event, well it certainly did at this years Clic IMO.

Oh yes, our mud training went particularly well last week, three quarters of a lap in an hour. I think we can be confident of more silverware for the trophy cabinet. In fact I doubt there is any point anyone else turning up with lap times like that in the bag 😉

Was it muddy in Bristol last week? I was only here on the Monday and it was pretty dry then and dry when I got back this Monday.

It had better not get as cold as it suggests on metGUESS.... otherwise my tomato plants will be in trouble!!

hoping accuweather is closer to what the actual weather will be...

I normally ride on semi-slicks around there even in the winter, however I have to say a few weeks ago when I rode around there just after the dusty trails got a bit of a soaking it was particularly lethal, the dust turned to a greasy sludge on top of the rock hard ground.

Some bits you couldn't even walk on without hitting the deck let alone ride on.

My thoughts exactly, as much as it's the best forecast I wouldn't believe anything from a site with experts from Anchor Man.

I'm there riding solo on sat on a blue SC Superlight.
I guess the small block 8s which were so good last year probably aren’t coming out to play this weekend.

I think the plan should be to get Corby to do more laps and we'll drink beer and heckle! Your bikes to small and i've only got 1 gear (which is weird according to Corby anyway)....
I'll be arriving on Saturday morning around 8.

Yep, that's my sort of lap time and I won't be turning up. Well, not to 'race' (or rolling roadblock, if you prefer) I will be along to provide cheery encouragement though, and to lie to riders about the rideability of corners on early laps if it's raining.

I still maintain that supertacky minions both ends are the best all season option round here.

Metcheck is currently saying that it 10 degrees here, when in fact it is a balmy summer evening and probably double that. It is supposedly going to go down to a "real feel" of minus 2 on Saturday. I leave you to draw your own conclusions. :-d

After the CLIC, I'm really, really, REALLY happy I decided not to do the Bikefest this year.

No, I'm sure it'll be lovely. Best of luck to everyone!

On the plus side, they have moved the ramp so it's not just after the zig zag climb. Unless they have completely changed the course...

I reckon they're looking at the 06 plot. The median precip peak has been drifting towards sunday all day. You'll be fine, apart from al the riding round and round in bloody circles.

The limetoney section by beggar bush lane after the start could be lively with a covering of lovely mud from the fields! Time to fit those Mud X's me thinks...

Ta. I think it's the various radar based predictions of developing fronts, the bottom line being the precipitation forecast and the upper showing pressure/temp/front changes. The convergence of the lines tomorrow suggests a front coming in and the black spike thereunder is the most loony prediction, the red line being an average.

I've heard that the ramp will be at 90deg to usual ie you go under it after the zigzags.

Forecast on bbc suggests there,s a band of dry weather over Bristol on saturday but it's right between two big lumps of rain so if it's out by a bit...

Bonty mud x tyres for me i reckon...

Eccles, that's all very well, but have you seen this?

[img] [/img]

I am concerned at the implications of the forecast for my mid-race snack strategy. I had hoped to go with cheese straws but may need to switch to something more robust and less prone to wilting.

Just how muddy could it get....??? I'm running chunky front Bonty ACX and a Bonty Dry X rear...i like my sideways action in the bends. I'm tubeless and really can't be arsed to change! 🙄

69ers are designed to be pointed at a corner and let the arse end follow anyway. Should make it more fun. 😀

Put it this way if the deluge that Metcheck is forecasting actually happens, if you're not using mud tyres your laps will be slow and/or interesting.

The down slope of the bridge is going to cause a lot of accidents if it's wet, so praying it stays dry. Interesting placement, bit tricky to get up onto it as well (especially if there's 50 other people trying to do the same thing).

At least Metcheck's looking more positive (for now)...

On another tyre q, fitted a RR 2.4 to the front of my 29er last week. I presume it will be cack in the mud, but have not ridden it yet. Its that or a Bonty ACX. Anyone used the RR up front in the wet?

I don't think Metcheck could forecast a morning boner, let alone something as complex and unpredictable as a weather system.

I'll be there riding on a mud coloured bike - to blend in - and probably quite slowly as I'll be in the niche category of a team of 3! (ALong with Nouvette, and our stealth ringer Robyn) - unless some one helps us find a super fast Mountain biking wench to join us!

OK, so do I take my crossmarks off now and put the MUD X tyres on, or what? I'm solo so I can't really do it during the day - and they're tubeless and I can't get the crossmarks back on without a compressor so it's a one way change!

Decisions decisions....

I think someone said Paul had a compact with the devil. Let's hope his soul was interesting enough for old Nick and keep the dry weather tyres on. Having said that, put the mud tyres on and it will be fine for the rest of us! 😆

jsinglet. If I had to choose a set of tyres right now for the weekend and stick with them regardless I'd be fitting mud xs - obviously great in the mud but I find that suprisingly they're actually very good all round - was flying on the course last week on them despite it being completely dry.

I shall be there riding in the 12hr pairs, wearing a RetroBike top and riding maybe a green Surly Karate Monkey SS if the beeb weather is to be believed, or possibly a cream Kona Caldera with Mud-X's and not my full sus c/w semi slicks!
Feel free to jeer/poke/etc as you sail by me!!
As an aside - is there plenty of parking for those who arrive tomorrow morning as last year was a complete p*sstake parking wise??
