Are brightly coloured lids acceptable for a podgy amateur or are they reserved for those blessed with skills?! I'm considering a dayglo giro... But wondering if I should stick to black?!

I have a "kelly green" giro and I'm well into the amateur category...

Seriously? I don't think it matters. I wouldn't associate a brightly coloured helmet with Awsum skillz & even if I did, wear what you want. Don't worry about what other people think.

Day glo all the way.. If only for helping the emergency services spot you on the hillside as you lie bleeding and hypothermic amongst the heather
