can anyone recommend a good family campsite around the Brechfa area - that allows open fires would be great?

It's not terribly close to Coed Brechfa, but close enough. 20 min walk to the friendly little pub in ffarmers. Friendly site owners. no campfires tho, good facilities, field was a bit boggy in April.

I accidentally left my expensive tent poles there and they posted them back to me - I sent them a tenner in thanks.

+1 for maesbach, the pub does a good curry too.

Very helpful, but probably busy getting everything ready for the enduro on the 16th.
