I had a 18" 'that blue' 456, which I liked but always felt was a bit small, then got a 20" glittery-poo-brown 456, which was brill. I should have kept it really, I got rid of it for a 19" Genesis Altitude 853, which has always felt a bit small...

if Brant re pays you, will you repay the money to the unfortunate person you sold the frame to?

He can’t unfortunately. Fella that bought it tragically died in a MTB accident. Something to do with a design flaw from what I can recall.

Yeah his sweat rotted the steel away somehow so the forks fell off.

Yes I sold it on eBay in the end as I was unable to sell it on here. I sold the whole complete bike for not much more than I bought the frame for, despite it having Hope wheels, brakes, XT stuff, Magura forks and nice finishing kit. Thinking about it - it would have probably been better to sell all the bits separately and I’d have got the sale price just selling the parts off and not the frame

The guy I sold it to I delivered it to him myself (IIRC it was a nice house in Leeds) and warned him to keep an eye out on the chainstay and make sure he checked it regularly. So my conscience is clear. Hopefully it serves him well

As far as I am concerned the matter is now closed and I won’t be mentioning it again.

Brant and I have exchanged lots of words over the years about this so it’s nice to sort it out eventually.  It’s a nice gesture he’s made which he really didn’t have to do at all and I wasn’t going to accept it at first but I do need to fix my current bike (actually the one I bought after the inbred in 2009, I still have it as my only off road bike) as the suspension seals have gone and the cranks are bent so at the moment no off road for me.

I wish Brant success in any new ventures, and while I’ll never fit into his special trousers maybe one day I’ll ride one of his bikes again.

restlesshawn - really like your build! I'm thinking of changing my town Inbred back into a real bike again, and thinking about a fatter front. What fork have you used - looks like the inbred chromo or fatty fork...with rivnuts!??

Current guise is this, with original M755 XT 4 pot and shimano stainless hose! The inbred wasn't quite right for my main MTB (high BB mainly) but i like it's versatility and solidity - and looks. Brant - will you resurrect the De Kerf tribute seatstays?

Don’t send him money Brant, especially after the latest revelation, send him a box of kleenex. To dry his eyes, and to mop up gizz, he seems a bit of a w an ker tbh

Hmmm. Bit late for that.

Paypal gift?

...and I wasn’t going to accept it at first

I think you might have missed the boat tbh.

@faustas Thanks.  They are the On One chromo forks for 26" wheels, 440mm a2c.  My brother brazed 3 bottle cage bosses in to them for me so I can mount stuff there if I want, also brazed a proper cable guide on at the same time.  Front wheel is a 27.5 with a Maxxis rekon 2.8.  Rims are Velocity blunt 35mm so it's fattish but doesn't look too odd.  The midge bars went on as my hands suffer with flat bars bikepacking for a few days.  It's like an trusty old friend.

Our offer to dissatisfied Inbred owners still stands - just send us your bank details and log-in along with a vague idea of when you might have bought the bike and we'll do the rest.

edit: outstanding thread, who says this forum isn't what it used to be, even if you do have to wait nine years for the punch line 🙂

Thanks @ restlesshawn - Certainly a tidy build, and sounds like it works well. Definitely given me some inspiration for mine, as it's a tough frame in the right size for me and I still have a few decent-ish 26" tyres hanging around and lots of parts.

@Brant - I really enjoy riding my Camino AL v1 but after nearly a year of ownership, I've just realised that whilst riding it I am missing out on doing other things and it's ALL your fault. You're a bad man, you owe me some time.
Can you reimburse me? Please? Pretty Please?

PS My dentist is in Todmorden, does this make my sad story more compelling?

Brant, Brant, Brant.

You know earlier when I said I really liked my Stif Morf? Thing is it made me want to ride beyond my ability a few times. This, unfortunately, resulted in me falling off or being scared on a few occasions. I’ve tried putting a price on the trauma and psychological damage this has caused.

How does £43 sound?

Thanks scotroutes, you've just made my day. Top marks. This thread is right up there now with sudacream cat and louise.

Brant, don't pay him, if you really want to then give the money to his brother. He's the only one with any evidence of a problem.

My earlier post has been deleted???

Weird how it's ok to lie and whinge like a baby (for nine years on and off it seems) to the point where you guilt someone to giving you your money back - just so you'll give over your gurning gob, but it's not OK to call some out for acting like a wab???

I'm in half a mind to seek post deletion trauma compensation

Anyway, good luck with the job Brant. And if you could remember to give us taller riders a bit more standover in the XL frames that'd be real nice 😀

I had a dark blue 456, all my mates (well 2 of them) had Ti 456's.

Can I claim compensation for the mental anguish I suffered over the years of always being the poor relation in the group?

I wouldn't mind some for my C456 that they ratted out of the warranty on.

First of all I must say, for the first time in ages, this thread has been wonderful :-).  I suspect Brant might be too much of a gentleman to answer directly, but if you paid the money, did you do so before or after the old classified thread was found along with the admission that there was no problem with the bike (thread suggests it was paid before).

Nobody with an inch of pride, or any sense of decency would accept the payment after that.  Disgusting behaviour.

I need to fix my bike but I wouldn't expect anyone else to pay for it as the result of a falsified  problem. I suppose youre one of those prople who will claim for anything, the American way.,at. the expense of others.  I know who I won't be helping out on this forum.

Yep, agreed.  If you value your reputation at £250, I'm guessing you don't really care what other people think of you though.

So, will a limited edition super special 853 Inbred singlespeed now become a cult collectors item? Not that there's one in my garage that barely gets used these days...

I think given the bike has been sold on in slightly shady circumstances - either a pretend fault or a genuine fault hidden from am unsuspecting second owner - the decent thing to do would be for newrobdob to donate Brant's £250 to a charity and regain some portion of self (and community) respect.

Any nominations what charity or good cause it should be?

Indeed, this and sweat rotted straps in one week. If nothing else we've got a lot of millage out of OO this week.

I find it hard to believe that Brant would be involved in anything so underhand.

Frankly I am stunned that this money was accepted,  is there anyway to block a forum member so I have no way of accidentally dealing with them

in future?

Brant, all the best.  I’m personally looking forward to Onone developing more value frames.  Specifically a more modern 45650b...maybe a longer version of the deedar?  I’m sold if so...

The one where you suggested newrobdob was an onanist and should be sent a belly wipe kit rather than cash? Despite it's accuracy I suspect you fell foul of the swear filter avoidance rule.

Brilliant, properly brilliant! Not Ling levels of brilliant but still brilliant.

Robdob, you have no shame if you don’t refund or pass the money on. You not getting as much as you wanted for a bike is not Brant or OO’s fault. You state in the add the issue you’ve been bleating about is not a problem. Damned either way cocker.

Never wanted an OO but my mate has had plenty and loves his 8 year old Inbred. It’s been SS, Alfine, 3x9, 1x10 and just keeps trucking. The current stuff looks mince but if they can get back to producing gear like the early stuff that will be a good thing.
