where does the inner cable clamp on a brand x lever?

I know where it goes into the lever but I don't know where it clamps into

it's the new xl version that clamps at the lever

I'm not sure if there should be a grub screw or somewhere else to route it into

Should be a barrel but with a grub screw that drops into a circular cutout in the lever near the pivot.
It was in the bag of bits & bobs separate to the lever when I bought mine last month.

I've got it , how did you get the holes lined up to get the cable through them?

When I did mine I just tweaked the barrrel about in the lever until I could get the wire through it - hen did it up tight. I then pulled the lever a couple of times and the wire went slack. Then updid the grub screw and pulled it right again. Did that a couple of times before I had it perfect.

What Joe says, but it's super fiddly.

I fitted 2 recently there is definitely a knack to it.

1. Pull the cable through the lever so you have alot of slack in the cable, don't try putting the end of the cable through the barrel without pulling all the excess cable through the 1st part of the lever.

2. Insert barrel and have the hole pointing in the rough direction the cable will be inserted from

3. Insert cable through the hole, As the grub screw is sticking out you can use your fingers to grab the barrel and move it slightly to line the cable up with the hole

4. Pull cable tight and tighten grub screw.

Simples! Literally a 2 second job to put the cable though the barrel and tighten it but then I have done it loads of times now ๐Ÿ™‚

If your lever isn't smooth i'd guess there isn't enough tension on the cable. Pull it really tight!
