I have a Hope Mount Adaptor Rear Post To IS 183mm that does not seem to fit my new frame. I've fitted it exactly how it was installed on my old frame yet the disc presses right up against it and rubs quite badly.
Am I using the wrong mount? Am I being stupid and missing the obvious?
No frikkin idea without pics
Thats a good point Al and not something I considered. Basically is there more than one type of 183mm disc mounts?
Hope ID chart there should a letter engraved onto the adapter to identify it. If it's a "B" i believe it should be the correct one (worth confirming, as I'm rubbish at disc mounts), & maybe the disc mount needs facing? (if a brand-new frame...)
Thanks zippy, it is indeed the 'B' type mount from Hope. The frame mounting is not threaded therefore will not need facing. I did wonder if the frame would only accept 160mm rotors, especially as the rotor is pressed up against the threaded mount where the 'B' is embossed but I'm sure other owners are running 180/183.
Assuming you have a Hope caliper then the "B" adaptor is right. Have you got some kind of extra spacer on the IS mount that is pushing it towards the rotor, or have you got a spacer missing from the wheel inside the dropout?
If not, the IS mount must be in the wrong place
Yep, Hope Tech X2 caliper mounted on Hope post to IS 'B' type adaptor.
There are two bolts to mount the adaptor to the frame. These bolts have two 'wafer thin' washers. I place these washers either side of the frame (as per the installation on my previous frame).
I fit the adaptor on the inside of the frame mount. I've not touched the wheel since purchasing it last year and it's a stock Pro II with Hope QR skewer.
I'll take another look at lunch with fresh eyes. I was considering leaving the washer out on the inside of the frame between frame and adaptor but it's sooo thin I would not have thought it would make any difference.
Very odd. I had Tech X2 with both 160 and 183 rotors on my current bike with no problem - 183 using the B mount. Currently have M4 with 183 and B mount and have about 5mm clearance between mount and rotor.
Not that it should make any difference, but do you have the "B" facing outwards so you can see it?
Right captain, I've sorted it. I've not placed a washer on the inside of the frame between frame and adaptor, instead using them both on the outside between bolt head and frame.
This has allowed for enough clearance between adaptor and rotor. Phew ๐
Finally my first build is over and apart from fine tuning the seat position/angle and controls I might be able to take it out for it's first ride ๐
Cheers
