Looking for some help on working out why my rear brake binds.
Shimano SLX brakes – newish pads (but happens with old or new)
No play in wheel hub
Brake pads clear the disc when spun stationary
Disc not warped
Pistons cleaned, brakes bled OK and work perfectly most of the time at low-medium speeds
The problem occurs when I’m travelling fast and freewheeling. The rear brake seems to be binding and there is a burring noise and the pads end up overheating.
If I pedal then it stops. Sometimes briefly applying the brakes makes it stop for a short period.
I thought it might be some sort of vibration that happens at speed but when inspecting the bike stationary everything seems solid and as it should be.
Anyone got any ideas?
wheel moving slightly in frame under load?
I tighten the skewers up pretty tight and it only happens when I freewheel - and it does happen when riding smooth surfaces in a straight line.
I'm stumped.
wheel and/or rear fork moving/flexing?
I'd be taking the hub apart and checking the freehub mounting bolt is tight in the shell.
That means taking the axle out, so you need to know how to service your hub before you start.
good ideas - I think I need me spanners and a hammer 🙂
