Hi,

I need to lenghten the hose on my fromt Hope brake.

I can go down the cheap and cheerfull route of just buying some more hose and a couple of fittings, or get a Goodridge kit for £20 more.

How much difference will a braided hose make on a front brake?

Cheers

It will increase the potential power of the brakes, certainly. To be honest, though, most improvement can be made by becoming really good at bleeding and maintaining them. Not much point in having badly bled brakes with funky hoses.

Rachel (who's not bad at bleeding the brakes but not perfect either!!)

I've a couple of lengths of carbon-effect Goodridge hose spare if you (or anyone) want. Something like 85cm and 140cm. No fittings. £10 posted.

All else being equal, including an air-free line - braided hose will improve the feel of the brake - more so on the (longer) rear, but it is still noticeable on the front. Whether or not this improvement is worth what it costs is for you to decide. You can pick Hope braided hose up on eBay for a tenner a length - the fittings from 5mm Hope standard hose will swap straight over.

I am excellent at bleeding brakes, by the way.
