So, I'm off with the wife to visit my mother in law this week, she's 20 mins from BPW and 30 mins from Afan.
I enjoy down hills as much as the next rider and also love cross country.
I ride a anthem 29 er.
FYI, all the uplifts are booked this week at BPW. And we are only there for a few days so only one for riding.
I need your reconditions and reasons for them.

I really need some help deciding!

BPW - Dull climb (especially if you do it several times, as you will) but lots of great fun on the way down.
Afan - Much better climbing, and lots of great fun on the way down.

For me, if it was one day, I'd do Afan. I prefer doing BPW as a part of a bigger weekend away, and to be honest, prefer it as an uplift, as the climb's as dull as an Argualympian Graph-Off (As seen elsewhere on this very forum!)

Supplemental - I don't even like climbing, but if I have to do it, I'd rather do an interesting one!

Afan- it's a really good trail centre. I prefer the trails around the old visitor centre (where the mining museum is), and Blade is polarising. I hated it except for the final descent but others seem to rave about it.

BPW without uplift is like driving a Ferrari with the handbrake on

BPW with no uplift is fine if you just do top halves and the odd full. Got to earn that burger anyway! Climbs not inspiring but going down is the interesting bit. But you would be doing it over and over,

tbh, Afan is more xc orientated and sounds like you lean more towards XC.

what about cwm carn?

I will be Billy no mates also, plan to ride on Thursday
I should have said that at the start, in my reasoning I would be safer with others around.

You can buy single uplift tickets on the day at BPW, though riders with a day pass get priority. We did it the day after a full uplift day and managed to get on every bus though.

I was at BPW on Friday, they were running 4 buses and there were plenty of spaces throughout the day.

You'll be fine to just rock up and get some uplifts

So here my update.
BPW on Thursday, no up lift and on the first ride up I missed the right turn after the new bit up the fire road, so I did a mega loop and ended up coming in on the left hand side.
Met some great people, stayed on the blues. By the third ride up, now taking the right turn, I was a bit knackered and the down was a bit less fun than it should have been.

Today
Afan, took the blade route, did not get lost, hooked on to a great group of lads.
For my taste Afan 10/10. BPW 6/10
I'm sure BPW Would get a higher score if I had an uplift pass, but £30 when all you pay for is parking £3 to ride Afan

For a flat riding Essex boy, Afan I'm coming back with some mates.
