Me again 🙂

So I got given a set of wheels last night with some stuff I bought for the bike I'm building, some Bontrager Line 30 Comp wheels, which I'm sure will do until I buy some new hubs and lace them into my rims.

They're from what I can tell, sealed bearing, and the bearings are a bit on the gritty side, so I'd like to replace them.

How on earth do you get them apart?, the end caps don't appear to be removable in any way shape or form that I can see!

Someone suggested they may well be DT Hubs, and that I need special tools for the task, from what I can see they've got Boost printed on them, Bontrager, and the rear has rapid drive printed on it too. it's an HG freehub body.

Are the Axle holes hex inside? If so it might just be a case of using a couple of hex keys and unscrewing them.

I think they actually just pull apart like a hope hub - gently clamp the end caps in a vice or something (soft jaws if you have them) and pull - should leave the bearings exposed and they can then be knocked out. They're very definitely not DT hubs either ;o)

I'll try that tonight.

I didn't think they were DT ones, but someone mentioned it :).. no good for my rims anyway as they're 28h and my scrapers are 32h I think.

I guess the bearings are a pretty standard 6x series of some sort?

Nah, looked like just a round hole all the way through for the through axle.

Looking at the exploded diagram they just pull off

Yes they just pull off....
They are nice wheels for the price, and you can upgrade the internals for more points of engagements for not too much money. They set up tubeless easily with the rim strips that are hopefully installed.

Got them on my new Slash and bought the extra pawls and springs for around £25. They just drop into the spare holes in the freehub and make the pickup and sound miles better!

Should have rim strips - if not they are about a tenner I think as bought some recently. Had no issues with my Comp 30's either. Been running tubeless for nearly 2 years with no leaks!
