A mate has a choice between the two through the bike to work scheme which one would you go for?
I have said the 853 for the lovely steeliness. Plus I used to own one myself albeit with a better spec than now.

Hi andy thought you might like to see what i did with your old frame ๐ i love it! Cheers
I would go with rock lobster.....oh I did go with rock lobster!
Went with the easton alu one though. They didn't have my size in 853 which made my choice easier although I think I would have leant that way anyway.
Steel RL and Boardman pro are very diff bikes? What they want it for? (I know to ride it - just thought I would head that one off)
I have an '08 Boardman Pro (MB) and am absolutely delighted with it. Sadly, I was a bit worried about being sneered at for having a 'Halfords bike', but folk are generally quite interested and just want to have a look.
The weight and spec swung it for me - sub 25 lb out of the box (weighs a bit more now that I've fettled with it...).
Haven't ridden the lobster, but don't discount the Boardman because it is from Halfords. They ride very nicely indeed.
Saw two Boardmans (Boardmen?) at GT yesterday and they looked really nice. Well finished, nice mix of components.
As said - Boardmens are nice - but having ridden a RL 853, I would go steel as its soo comfy and sprightly. One of best steel bikes I have ever been on...
Thanks for the feedback. I keep saying the rl but I think because of the components on the boardman vs the 853 he'll be putting his name down for one. Its a shame in my opinion.
Nunu- that really is a lovely looking thing, the pink isn't my cup of tea but i love the new colour. Well done. Glad you like the frame.
