I am thinking of getting a BMX this summer. I want to be able to use it on a local BMX circuit, pump track and also a BMX/skate park - nothing crazy, no big air or moves.
Is there such a thing as an all rounder? I don't want to spend more than about £400.
Bumped for the morning crowd.
I recently bought myself an Eastern Traildigger complete for 150 from winstanleys bmx for some skatepark giggles. Weighs as much as my Anthem, but is nice to ride so far. Haven't felt the need to change anything yet either!
Excellent recommendations thanks!
My girlfriend has a pink BMX that she doesn't use anymore but is adamant that she'll get out on it again during the summer.
I guess like most bikes it's much better to buy the bike rather than build the frame but I'll keep a look out on ebay for a frame so I can join her.
Not sure I'd go for the whole no brakes thing tho, shoe companies like Vans, DC ect must be laughing all the way to the bank!
Gotta love BMX! But if you are thinking of buying something then please look at one or many of the rider owned shops rather than souless w@nkstanleys or CRC.
Radbmxshop
Liferbmx
Customriders
BMXCity
Sourcebmx
As they will normally price match and give a superb service, they also give back to the local BMX scene rather than just take your money and do nothing.

It's also worth asking how tall you are as well? as you will need to take the top tube length into account. If you're 6' then a TT length of around 20.5 - 21" would be good. As with all things with two wheels, different BMX bikes have different characteristics.....a higher BB will push you more forwards for instance. If you're looking a complete then United and FIT do some cracking bikes for around £250 mark (in some of the bike shops mentioned above sales) sealed hubs and BB
+1 Custom riders, Mason is a great lad and a amazing rider. Top service from the CR team.
definately, great shop and remember Mason riding at our local park in the early 80's.
CRC are great for MTB stuff but leave BMX with the rider owned shops
Pickle do you remember a guy called Duncan Jack? He is a really good mate and introduced me to Mason. They had such a great time back in the day travelling the world with BMX, some hysterical stories. Met Gerry Galley as well, really nice guy and a genius on a BMX.
Thanks for the advice. Will definitely check out rider owned.

Yeah tbh most bmxes will be fine for a bit of everything, so long as you don't get one that's really short, steep and high BB! I think a good general bmx geometry is 20.5-21" top tube, 74.5 head angle, 14-15" chainstays and around 11.85" BB height.
I got a Sunday Trail Scout and it's such good value for money. I doubt you'd get anything better for the price. Loaded with Odyssey and Sunday parts and I think it looks the tits 😀
And a little vid of me riding it badly
Nice Sunday......agreed they're a good ride as well.
Pigface, no i can't say i remember Dunkan? Mason used to pop into Bowes Lyon skate park in Stevenage, where i lived and grew up. He used to come down and ride with a mate of mine Ronny Macmyne (? spelling of surname) around 83-85
Tom how did you get that park to yourself? where are the hordes of kids on scooters?
*Sees Mongoose above.
Goes all quivery in the legs. *
I go through phases of thinking I should get a 26" then I ride mine, scare myself silly and remember why 20" is so ace!!
Warming up for Crit racing whilst everyone else was on rollers!!
Haha rorscach I'm exactly the same, keep thinking I want a 26" dj til I go for another ride on the bmx and remember why I love it!
And i got the park to myself by going on a weekday morning after half term 🙂 its normally full of scooters with zero park etiquette.
Can it have 24" wheels?
