My lad's BMX has a back brake like this

That's not gonna work is it?

you could actually bodge it to work, but it should have a straddle cable and yoke.

Is that what I need to look for? If I ask the shop for one of those...they'll know what I mean?

should do.
a stradle cable can be made from any old brake cable, the yoke is just a pinch bolt that the straddle runs through.
