[#5440766]

About to fit and tinker a set of these at the weekend for a friend.
I've heard that the olives can be reused and you can use a syringe (without plunger) instead of the yellow funnel.

Is that true or do I need to go shopping?

I've got a sealed pot of cyclo mineral oil. Will that do or is it worth getting a small bottle of the Shimano stuff?

We're it DOT 5.1 I'd just be off the the nearest car parts place. Oddly, I don't have much dealing with mineral brakes.

Cheers

I use two syringest with plungers to purge bubbles out both ways. So you don't need the funnel. Also heard olives can be re-used and if you're cutting cables, you can do this without a bleed if you're careful.
They can be a little difficult to get all the bubbles out.

I have use a non-shimano mineral oil to no ill effect.

Use the instructions that Rob has linked to there and you won't go wrong.

One thing I'd add is to pump the lever a few times without the wheel in to being the pads closer to the disc once it's fitted. Makes for a much nicer lever feel.

I've shortened hoses without bleeding. I wouldn't reuse the olives though, mine came out pretty crushed, up to you though.

Cheers folks. So, do I take it the olives are split now like the hope ones?

My olives where not split and were one use only. XT brakes usually come with spares olives etc to allow you to shorten the hose.
