Be aware if you come down Devils Elbow or the other BW that meets the bottom of DE, and turn left/head towards Slack lane.
A tree has come down and there’s a really solid bit sticking out into the track at arm height, just by a concrete pillar on the opposite side making the track very narrow.
Saw a group of 4 today go past us, then an almighty crack..
We went down to see if everything was ok and a poor bloke was on the floor in agony with either a broken collarbone or arm.
His mates were medics so he was well looked after.
We had a go at attempting to move the bit of tree but it was just to heavy so we’ve tried to make it obvious it’s there.
If anyone local has a big saw chopping a bit off would make things a bit safer!
If the 4 guys involved are on here I hope your mate got to hospital ok.

Thanks guys - I really appreciate your concern and the foil blanket!

All things considered I’m doing OK, it could have been a lot worse. I’ll be off the bike for a while but feel fortunate to have not done more damage.

Thanks again

No bothers at all.
Glad your (relatively) ok!!,
forgive my noseyness... what’s broken!??! Dunno if it was you or the tree that went “crack” but it was an impressive noise.
I guess you hit the tree and bounced of the concrete post thingy. Hopefully someone will be up with a saw... seemingly caught someone else out the other night as well.
Heal quick.
It may be small conciliation but the girlfriend was impressed at the speed you whizzed pasted us!!!

No worries - clavicle and a couple of ribs.

Might have been better it we’d been going a bit slower!

Thanks again

Sorry to hear of your injuries. I copped for it last night too at 8.45. 3 of us had just smashed it down Devils, had a minute to catch some breath at the bridge, then set off for a pint at the Dev. Warned my mate, "watch that tree", next second, clipped my left hand bar and high sided onto the path. Hurts like ****, nothing broken, full movement but as stiff as hell. Sounds like I got off lightly. Get well soon.

hi guys.

I'll pass this on to the scc row team to see if they can get it sorted.
Cheers

Caught me out the other day too, thankfully I only ended up clipping it and wobbled a bit.

It actually caught three out of the four of us today, although I had the worst landing and thankfully everyone else got away more lightly.

I really appreciate the messages of support and hopefully it’ll get cut back before it catches anyone else out - thanks for looking into it Steve

Council rangers are on their way out to sort it now.
If anything similar ever happens please email ride sheffield and we’ll get it sorted.
