[#2026949]

probably a stupid question but I've got a black pro2 front and xt rear hub and looking to get some white stans 355s or crest rims to get a set made up but reckon its gotta be black spokes to look right..... 🙄

So can you get black spokes in the required length anyone know?

Cheers

Yes, you can. But to anticipate your next question 🙂 I don't know where from as my LBS built up the wheel

Yes - just got some black dt revolution spokes for building a road bike wheel from CRC - ask them about sizes - they have more than are listed on the site

ps CRC were much cheaper than elsewhere, who either want £1 per spoke (!) or you to buy a box of 100

Ok thanks , I'd spoken to someone who's built a few 700c wheels but only used normal double butted spokes.

Bit of a long shot but anyone know what lengths I'll need for those hubs and rims? I've had a look at wheel pro site but couldn't find out.

If I can source them this week the guy will show me how to build them up. Trouble is he's not local and I'm combining this with a visit to family so hoping it'll fall in place.

Touch optimistic perhaps. 😀

Use a calc to work out spoke length. You should be able to get the dimensions to put into a calc for the find and hubs on the web.... or measure your self. As above there is nothing special about '29er ' spokes.... just black double butted spokes from dt or sapim will fine.

Might be worth £9 on roger musson book... very helpful

Crc only have revolutions long enough for 29ers.

Drop them an email with your hub and rim and they'll tell you the length you need as the online calculators are not always correct.

Would the revolutions be strong enough for off road?

I was recommended silver on my new 29er wheel build. Typically black spokes are more brittle (due to the anodising process) and on a bigger wheel more likely to break.

(awaiting the backlash)

Really......didn't know that? Black would look better but if they're more brittle then maybe it's back to the drawing board. 🙄

Most road bikes come with black spokes..... bet they are all bricking themselves with their weakened spokes..... I'm going to stop using my road bike right away.

Also it is a chemical process - black oxide not anodizing. The effect on the spoke will be microscopic and of no influence compare to all the other wheel strength factors etc..

All that said I prefer the look of silver spokes they just look better. Just choose the colour you want and get them build properly...
