[#3853336]

We've booked a family holiday for early May. It was going to be Mallorca and I was looking forward to some top notch road riding, but a much better deal to Menorca turned up.

Looks like there are fewer roads and possibly more trails in Menorca, but very little clear info online.

Anyone been and what was it like please?

🙂

It's fairly flat and very hot.

I was there for a couple days with a mate last summer, great for chilling out, not sure about biking.

Where are you staying??

There is a bridle path that circumnavigates the island, MTBing is permitted on it. Most of it off road, with plenty of singletrack and sand, lots of short steep ups and downs and very, very scenic. Some parts are rideable, some are not at all. In general the North is pretty technical and remote, the South less so...It's called Cami de Cavalls. Basically you will be cycling from one beach/cove to the next one.

Try wikiloc for routes...

And if you feel very strong, this

If you're youngish, make sure to go here;

It's mind blowing. Especially after a couple drinks.

Hi Chakaping, I would say an MTB is better. Some of the roads are quite rough to be honest. I have not cycle myself in Menorca but I'm planning to do it (probably end of May or June). I don´t know if I'll take my own bike or hire one for a few days(totvelo, bikemenorca, velosjoan). If you decide to hire make sure you contact them in advance.

I think the cami de cavalls from Cala en Bosh is ride-able.I've walked some parts that would be fun on the bike (descend to cala Macarella or Mitjana for example).

There are some companies, as well, that offer guided rides (even one from cala en Bosh):
menorcasport
MTB menorca

I think they all speak English but if you have any problem let me know and I'll contact them on your behalf.

I'll try to send you a few gpx/kml and links for maps tomorrow, I'm quite busy now sorry.

Thanks Miguelo, that's a great help.

I think I will take my own MTB and explore the cami de cavalls in different directions then. If you have any files that would be cool.

🙂

My dad lives in Menorca and I spent last summer there working with him. Un fortunately I didn't take my bike as the biking scene has really developed over the last few years.

The Cami de Cavalls is a great network and there are cycle routes criss-crossing the whole island. Also plenty of pretty good bike shops for spares etc.

Here's a couple of links from a quick google!

If you have specific questions regarding the island give me a shout as I know it pretty well having spent a lot of time there over the years, my Dad is also there.

Thanks Gregg, I've had a look on Google Earth and there do seem to be a promising number of tracks across the island.

Really looking forward to some old-school holiday XC action now!
