Now, I think my gnarmac bike fits the description, but this? Oh my....

[img] [/img]

Would be nicer with eTap Hydro, but just look at it!

So, let's celebrate the arrival of winter (ish) with a thread about bikes that look good with mudguards on.

"Reached out"

It's a close run thing as to if I dislike Americans more for the creation of this phrase or giving Trump the time of day.

Road bikes with large clearance tend to look better with mudguards that without. Tightens up the gaping hole!

Based on the fact that I have never seen one without mudguards and they would therefore by default look awful, a Dawes Galaxy looks good with mudguards

I'm gonna get a photo of my Tripster later. It looks awesome - I think the mudguards were £7.
They go on and off really quickly though 🙂

The Condor and Scotroutes silver one - the line of the mudguard in front of the fork crown has to exactly follow the line of the tyre, or it looks like they've just been thrown on, (sorry Scotroutes, it's probably my OCD problem to be honest)

The Shand's have it right. OP bike would probably look better with black 'guards.

Mudguard fan here.

Zippy Kona...thank you, made my morning

The custom stuff always looks pretty good with guards. The orange shand looks lovely, as does this Field in my opinion, albeit accepting the paint job may not be to everyone's taste.

It's more to do with the quality of the mudguards & how they look than the bike they are fitted to, I reckon.

The mudguards fitted to firestarters bike above look [s]good[/s] erm, acceptable to start with, so don't look too bad fitted to a bike.
I'm guessing they are those quality PDW guards?

I've seen some commuters round my way on road bikes with the crud roadguard things on & they look pretty good as they are so discrete.

But all of the bikes posted above look better without guards, except perhaps the Dutch town bike thing....
Every German/Dutch town bike.

Is the correct answer to this thread. Every other contribution is simply (at best) a bike which doesn't look awful with mudguards.

I don't understand why people have rear mudguards on mountain bikes. Those ones that wang about off the seatpost. You're going to get muddy, does it matter your back gets muddy too?

You get alot less muddy

And yes that matters if you in the middle of nowhere and don't want to get cold.

I don't understand why people have rear mudguards on mountain bikes. Those ones that wang about off the seatpost. You're going to get muddy, does it matter your back gets muddy too?

Full sus, I'd probably agree with you unless you have one of those guards that attaches to the stays (mudhugger).
But on my hardtail I can get my mud guard to hover very close to the rear wheel, which cuts out all but the worst rear-end mud spray.
It helps keep my pack & my rear end free of mud & prevents that wet crack sensation which is never pleasant....

I would have thought the difference it makes is small.
You're wrong.

My old condor looked cute with mudguards

Didn't like how it rode though

Morphed into this, which looks ok with road racer guards

Sorry, both look horrendous with guards but I need the eye bleach after seeing those bars - twice.

Condor is nice, the Look isn't.

That Skinnymalinky gets my vote.

I think mine looks ok with guards...

... though it is more a case of this...

Every other contribution is simply (at best) a bike which doesn't look awful with mudguards.

Ride anything with plus or fat tires in the wet and cold and after a number of hours convince yourself that for the sake of your bike 'looking good' you're rather ride around with a face-ful'o'$hite, zero-chance of someone being hospitable when you stop mid-ride for somewhere to eat/drink and accepting your saddle and clothing is going to get wrecked after one filthy ride. There's also the joy of reduced component life, conjunctivitis and even better cryptospiridium to look forward to 😉

I thought my (now sold) Minute looked OK...

But the Boardman only 'dresses up' for very wet rides

I know, I know, I've said this before.

I like mudguards because I don't like the taste of emulsified shit on my face, and I'm not particularly keen on getting my clothes sprayed with it either.

But I suppose it's a fashion thing. The bike looks filthy so it looks as if the rider has been doing heroics, and the rider likes to smell like shit after a ride. Maybe even enjoys the taste.
