Looking to take my beloved bike off to the alps this June. First time flying with my bike.

Looking for some packing and traveling advice.

Looks like I'll be flying easy jet to Geneva. Bike bag required or will a box do the same job?

Cheers in advance.

👍

Ah search is buggerd or just showing the results from 2009

Same reply as always...

I use an Evoc bag, it's been round the world about 3 times and upwards of 100 flights I reckon

Packing takes 10 mins, wheels off, bars off, rotors off and mech off taped to the stays packed as per the instructions along with the tools you took it apart with.

After that it's simple and easy take to the airport having checked your within weight, drop it off at oversize after checkin and pick up on the other end.

Never had any issues

https://www.bikebag-hire.com I see this site advertising on Facebook quite a bit, they are SW based and can post you the bag too. Prices seem reasonable compared to buying.

+1

I use an Evoc bag as well. They are incredibly easy to pack and have wheels so are easy to move around.

I'd get a bike bag simply on the basis that it identifies what it is that the cargo handlers are dealing with. Evoc are great bags but pretty pricey and only start to make sense if you're flying frequently .

I have a CRC bag which I believe is "inspired" by the Evoc bag but is quite a bit cheaper. It's relatively easy to pack the bike into the bag. I've only used the bag for a couple of trips so far but it's managed them fine. This bag replaced another CRC bag, which was fine but wouldn't fit the long 29er that I'd just bought.

detailed advice on,

https://roadcyclinguk.com/sportive/travel-air-bike.html

I used to find the cardboard box (free and sacrificial) from your local bike dealer as good as most bags. To be on the safe side, you might also want to bring a spare mech hanger out with you.

I like the CRc bag for lots of reasons, especially when I laugh at my mates pulling them as they topple off their wheels for the 15th time.

EVOC currently rules, but when CRC sort out the wider wheelbase it will be as good, if not better.

I travel with my bike once or twice a year and use a Polaris bike bag. It's a good chunk cheaper than the Evoc, and they seem to have sales reasonably often. Does the job for me.
