Just moved to East London and despite my bike being in a "Secure" underground car park, inside a "Secure" bike storage cage and being "Secured" with 2 high quality locks some thieving scum bag has stolen my Kona Dr Dew commuting bike.
Even though I always thought of it as a hack bike i've covered literally thousands of miles on the old girl and I'm genuinely gutted. What's worse is that I had just treated it to a new chain, cassette, shifter and mech and only ever got to enjoy the smooth delights of a new drive train once.
Anyone else got any experience of the "Secure" bike storage sheds not being in any way secure?
I hope that Karma is going to catch up with the thieves. And has its evil way with them.
Bad times indeed ๐ฅ
I have no similar experience to relate but as a fellow-biker you have my deepest sympathies and here's to Karma....
...may he/she always get his/her man ๐
Bummer.
Sounds like an inside job.

Did you check there wasn't someone in the bike locker before you put the bike in? ๐
Condolences about the bike though, mines stashed away at work in a much much less secure fashion and now you've got me worried. Where in east London are you?
With all this 'security' you would think there might be cctv?
I live in a s****y new build apartment block in Canada Water - just next to Canary Wharf.
I'm just glad i hadn't been stupid enough to put my "proper" bike in there.
There is supposedly CCTV as well, although annoyingly the concierge bloke that watches the monitors was being moved offices over the weekend so the screens were not being monitored. Still waiting to find out if there was a recording being made but saying that i don;t hold out much hope of ever seeing the old girl again. All of which makes me feel as though it may have been an inside job. The flats are so new that some are still not moved into, so there really are not many people around...
My Wife's Specialized rock-hopper equivalent was also locked in there, and they had left it but they may have been disturbed as the saddle had been removed (but left behind)...
So, if anyone sees a green 2008 Kona Dr Dew, size large with massively cut down bars and a rag-tag collection components for sale then let me know and / or take matters into your own hands and help Karma out!
Bike spec is: project 2 forks, KORE Q/R skewers, Sram x7 rear shifter, deore front, x9 rear mech, one ride old sram 9 speed chain and cassette, ritchey foam grips, topeak mountain morph pump and an exposure handlebar mount
Cheers
James
A mate had his bike nicked from secure underground storage, they found the CCTV footage (yippee) but all it showed was a hoodie nicking his bike, no face shots at all so don't expect too much from the CCTV!
Gutted for you, hope the thieving scum face plants really hard onto tarmac.
Get down to Brick Lane market on sunday morning, good chance the scum will be fencing it there...
Then there is a good chance it will be bastardized with another bike and appear on Ebay .
There is a chap in Dulwich who has sold many , many bikes .
Refuses cash on collection , refuses collection full stop .
Lies about his location .
There was a long thread about 'him' last week.
Hope you get your bike back, or find somewhere more secure for another one.

If you are interested I cam pm you the enlightening email chain from him , but I will not stick it up on here . Because all the tree huggers will get their panties stuck up there bum cracks .
Hey singletrackmind, that'd be great! jamesrdrake at gmail dot com!
the police have taken an interest in my case because of all the security that was bypassed - they're treating it as a burglary! I doubt anything will come of it, but it is good to hope!
cheers,
James
