I thought the shape made it look like a dog doing a poo

That's the old shape. The new shape does not have any similarities with defacating canines

No, never even tried one, also dislike the look of the new SC Bur LT-2 too, think it looks crap.

I've tried a Nomad though, thought it was overweight & totally unsuitable for the UK (unless you do Fort Bill every week) but if you like it that your prerogative.

That is extremely good, if slightly expensive ... I found it to slack for anything other than DH.
Still think they ain't nothing special, sorry Bomberman, I'm assume this is yours now - i never meant to slag off your bike, I just don't think Nomad's look good.
They no doubt perform excellent (going DH)

its not mine! i just found it on mtbr and liked the look of it. i agree it's a bit too slack for xc but it looks like a lot of fun and i like the shape. each to their own...

Love mine - as for being overkill for the UK, it depends what kind of riding you do.

This is the new 09 model built with DHX 5 Coil and 36 coils on the front, a reliable build for all day trail use which can include biggish drops (for me anyway) of 8ft+, 15ft + doubles - upto 35 miles in length and the occasional NPS or world cup DH track during visits to the Alps.

It weighs 32lbs on proper bike scales. I could build it lighter but that would mean sacrificing the coils for air - not worth it in my experience. Had a Mojo Sl for a while and this climbs as well but is far better on everything else, it feels more "planted".

As for the looks - I like it, it's way nicer than my 06 Nomad.

This is my 09 Nomad. I feel very similarly to Cyclelife about them. I can do all day XC rides in the Peaks or I can do full on DH courses and the bike is still fantastic. May not be absolutely ideal for either but as a do everything bike, for me it is absolutely ideal.

Yeah it is, well spotted. Got more of a bend in the top tube in front of the seat tube.

Go on then, I'll bite. What makes you feel that the Nomad is ugly?

it looks like a nice bike that got too close to the fire.

Hmm, trying to not sound too much like a fanboy, I can't really see that. The top tube has a bend in it but it's there for a good reason as it has to pick up the top linkage and I really don't see how that makes it so ugly.

Anyway, I like it and it is far prettier than my previous Enduro.

only yanking yr chain, I've been tempted by a Santa Cruz (I used to skateboard and I can't help but feel a pang of nostalgia!), they are good bikes, if a bit, well, runny looking 😆

looks good it just takes some a while to coma around from a thin tubed diamond, I like all this hydroforming can only be a good thing.

Consider my chain mildly yanked 😉

Does seem that there are a good proportion of people who don't like the look of the Nomad though and I can't really see why. Was intrigued really.

I reckon the original nomad was one of the nicest looking frames around. Not sure I like the new one quite as much though.

Totally different animal I know but similar shape. Is the general consensus that this is to fashionable, bendy and ugly too ?

I don't think so, I once fell into the deep end of a drain swimming pool and broke my skafoid but not a lotapeopleknowthat.

who were you thinking of and how did it happen? I'm intrigued!

not keen on the looks of either the new or old shape tbh.

Really not keen on replacing bearings every 6 months either....

Follwed a blur recently and the suspension was creaking and groaning like an old man!!

Maybe because they ARE ugly.

singlespeedstu, judging by your username i'm guessing that you're into more simple bikes. like singlespeeds... perhaps? Personally, i like the curves.

I have many bikes.

Including a Nomad.....

Doesn't stop it being ugly though.

Just shows how easy it is to miss judge folks you've never met doesn't it? 😉

MrNutt there was someone on this forum who was posting from a hospital bed and posted a vid up of the crash. it was a drop from a section of north shore where it looked like he nipped the front brake on landing and jacked over the bars. maybe it was because you're called MrNutt? i did think that guy was a bit nuts! nobody will guess from my username that i used to be called oneyedwilly. OOps! 😉
