I've tentatively enquired about bike insurance before but used to get ridiculous quotes. I have a Santa Cruz Superlight c. 1996 which cost £2.5k back then but it's replacement was quoted at £4.5k recently.
My home insurance won't cover it's value - anyone got any advice on insuring on a like-for-like basis?
BC, gives you an option to cover it for racing too. Haven't had to call on them yet, but I can't see them messing people around.
BC?

Do you really need to insure it for £4.5k? I'd be surprised if any insurance company would pay out that much (nearly double it's purchase price) to replace it if it actually came down to it. You should consider the value of the bike as it is now (and the risk of not insuring it) against the cost of insuring it at it's new value.
A 16 year old Superlight is likely to actually only be worth a few hundred quid. Insurance on new-for-old basis (if you can get it) is likely to be over a hundred. If you don't insure it then you've saved the current value of the bike in 2-3 years?
Just take out a second house insurance policy that will cover it (m&s or aa?) And then cancle your current insurance when the renewal comes up?
Is it really worth 4.5k though? The current superlight full bikes are 2.5k same as your purchase price, and the frame is still around the grand mark - the same as it was in 96. It must have some pretty special parts on it....
