Hello. Thinking of getting a proper bike fit.

Have you had one?

Why did you go for it, what did you get out of it, would you recommend?

Cheers 🙂

Bob

Mrs Yak had one at Vankru in Hampshire. http://vankru.com/
Fixed all her road bike issues in one go. Ended up with small changes to the bike and a shimmed and angled cleat on one side. Recommended.

Yes.

Had lynskey cx frame & carbon fork; wanted everything to fit properly.

At the time York Cycleworks had just taken delivery of state-of-art fitting jig from Trek.
I was one of their 'guinea pig' customers so the cost to me was minimal.

Set-up the jig using frame & fork geo then used all the interchangeable components until alignment, reach, height,
pedal stroke, feet angle etc were in optimum positions.

All dialled in then a few seated and out of saddle efforts for fine tuning.

After that there was cleat alignment, sit bone measurement for correct saddle width.

Using all of this we then specced the parts for the build.

Biggest benefits - right width of bars, correct crank length, accurate cleat alignment and optimum saddle width.

I would say that the benefits would have justified the full retail price and my accident of timing made it a complete bargain for me.

I had one and it was a total waste of time and money. I think the guy I went to might have been useful if I already has issues to correct but I wanted preventative setup not correction setup.

A mate went to a different place and said it was a huge help.

Me, I've had one at Bike Dynamics on Leamington.

It was my first road bike and I have dodgy feet so I wanted some reassurance my bike was set up right and the cleats were in the right place. I wasn't far off but the cleats had some work done and the position was changed. It didn't revolutionise anything but it did give me a bike that feels comfortable and fast.

BW in Bristol, best cash ever 🙂
solved a lingering neck/shoulder issue by just looking at me sat on
my bike in his turbo rig - Brilliant. Whilst at it though sorted out
a "non firing glut" and a couple of other muscle related issues.

I did have the fit pretty much dialled in anyway but a small saddle
change up and forward was all that I really needed.

The stretches/exercises advice was more benefit than anything else
though and would recommend it on that alone. Problem with that is
that not all fitters do this side of things. One of BW's is a sports
physio 🙂

How many of these experiences were with your own bike on a turbo with an experienced eye, and how many on a fully adjustable rig with power meter etc? Worth paying more for the latter?

Had one on Friday last week. There second I've had in my life and far better than the first.
I think it's money well spent considering how much you could spend on saddles, stems and bars to experiment on your own.

Call a few and talk them them and go with the person you get on with.
Ultimately it doesn't matter what methodology they use so long as they are experianced.

Wife had one done with Paul Hewitt last year.
£120, but that's knocked off the cost of a new bike if bought from them.

Very productive and good value.
She's much more comfortable and sadly, faster on the road.

He was extremely helpful and patient, explaining each step.
No time pressure at all, took well over 3 hours in the end, everything checked and checked again until right.

Very decent and pleasant people to deal with.

Try and avoid Saturdays though.
It's a small, busy shop and the jig is between the workshop, counter and stockroom.
