What is the forums recommendation for a budget bike bag? Initial use is for back of the car- may be used for flights down the line.

I've seen the Planet X and the CRC ones - any good?

Cheers,

Paul

What's the budget? Can't fault my evoc and paid for itself a couple of times over now.

+1 Evoc

I wouldn't do flights with the thinner bags.

I have two duffbags (monsters) which work very well in the car and my bike used to live in a wardrobe inside one too. Supply problems with the company mean its hard to recommend. Have also used it for 1 flight with bike very well padded and big sheets of cardboard but its far from ideal. I would say you have two different requirements, air travel you want a solid bag/box with bike taken apart vs car where its a more simple bag to keep car clean and make it easy to load/unload

My CRC bag is 6 or 7 years old. The "reinforcing" plastic ribs in the underside snapped at the first use. The rest of the bag is fine, if now looking battered. The seams are all fine and there's no seam slippage. The bulk of the damage is down to staining, tearing and general abrasion. I've taken mine on planes, trains, taxis, on top of a Landy and boats.

Without the ribs, the bag flops about when wheeling it about. This can be remedied by putting a cardboard box lining in the bag, which makes it more rigid and stable. I wouldn't buy another, i'd get an evoc or bikeboxalan. But for a budget bag, it has been OK.

The bike bag came with two wheel bags. These have been really useful and I recommend getting a pair of them

Budget is ideally sub £100.

Can't afford an evoc right now.

🙁

a bag for the back of the car? id never ride if i had to put it in a bag everytime.

surely a couple of dust sheets?

anything that is good for flights will be a pain for the back of the car. definitely two separate requirements

Out of interest, how small do the Evoc bags fold up when you want to store them

You may find that easy use in the boot and being structured for flights aren't easy bedfellows.

If you want a boot specific bag, you may be interested in the Evoc Bike Cover.

As it happens, I could be persuaded to sell mine. Bought it for exactly this requirement but then circumstances changed and as a hoarder I've kept it just in case....

The picture shows it with a bike wheels on. I remember needing to take the front off (XL frame) and can get mine all in with both wheels off. There's a block in the base to lift the RD up.

I bought an £8 tarp from screwfix to stick my bike in the back of a car I borrowed. Was bikepacking so I could lob the dirty bags in with it too at the end of the trip
