I organize two events that may count as big rides.
The first is called the Legs of Mann and is loosely based on a enduro or car rally format with special timed stages interspersed with liaison sections. There are 3 legs, Saturday night, Sunday morning and afternoon. Overall the event is 135km long, around half will be competitive. This is over the early May bank holiday (4th and 5th May 2013). You can get the ferry over Saturday morning, ride Saturday evening, Sunday all day and then either get the boat back or wait til Monday and then return.
the second is a 100 mile event in the Isle of Man called the Manx 100. The event is on 28th July 2013, and has around 14,500 feet of ascent. We are also offering a 100km option. It's a club event, this is its second year. We had 12 riders last year, 6 finished. The first in 11:10, second 11:25 the rest as a group at just over 14 hours. It will be interesting this year as Richard Rothwell has already put his name down.... And indicated he will try to get under 10 hours!
We are on Facebook ("the manx 100" or "legs of Mann") or you can find competitors handbooks in the forum section at www.manxmtb.com
Any queries you can pm or query here, or e me at nigel@manxmtb.com

Highland Trail Race in May
Me too. I think I'm going to do the Cairngorms Loop in late April as a test of all my kit, and perhaps another three dayer as well.
BasqueMTB skills with with Greatrock... (CANNOT WAIT for this!!)
a possibility to ride Snowdon with others has just popped up recently..
and probably one of the scottish trail centres..
I did the Haute Route Alps this year, doing Pyrenees version next year. Fantastic event, I was amazed how much I enjoyed it. Having right of way at every junction for 780km is pretty cool.
SDW in a night,
IoM End2End
Bontrager 24/12
Torq 12:12
Not really sure about any others for now ๐
Quite tempted to do the Ride 24 for Action Medical Research as a solo rider but the idea of lapping Thruxton race track for anything up to 100 times is as off putting as the challenge is appealing...
I'm sort of going off big organised rides.
I doubt I'll attempt to push my bike through mud for 24 hours at MM or SITS again.
I'd like to do a few all day epics on my own, maybe something as simple as seeing how far I can ride up Sustrans Route 45 in a day, then getting a lift home with Mrs MTG.
Just spotted that 3 Legs of Mann. Might have made a fun birthday ride.
Been meaning to get over for years for the tt and riding.
