I guess the rear bearing is in the dropout rather than the hub- with the cassette outboard of the dropout.

id imagine it’s a pretty big faff to get the wheel on and off as a result. But as you don’t have to do that to change a tyre or a chain or a cog you’d hardly ever need to do so.

Looks like Quick Release single sided Sturmey-Archer brakes.

They can be removed in seconds - although that's hardly necessary because you can fix a puncture on that without removing the wheel.

It does mean the bike can be made small instantly to fit in a car boot with no faffing about with the chain.
