Last night it was proven beyond all doubt that the fastest bike is a 26" wheeled hardtail, the Clent Duffers (tm) did the 'no brakes challenge' at Col du Clent, present were 3 26" wheeled full sussers, a singlespeed 29er HT and a 262 geared HT, the 'no brakes challenge' involves a stationary start from a bench at the top of a slope, no pedalling allowed, freewheel down the slope and roll as far as possible, the 26" HT achieved the fastest speed on the descent and rolled the furthest therefore proving categorically the 26" HT's are the fastest bikes on the planet, I await your paltry ramblings about tyres, rider weight, bearing quality, bravery etc, I'm off to have some brekkie ๐Ÿ˜€

surely the 26" FS rider was the fatty but the 29er rider was probably slowed down by a massive beard ๐Ÿ˜‰

having recently bought a cx bike, I beg to differ ๐Ÿ™‚

set some stonking strava times, including lots of high table rankings on quite rough singletrack ๐Ÿ˜€

Cx and road bikes have no place on an mtb forum
Ss rider did have a silly beard ๐Ÿ˜€
I thought the 26" full suss rider was a fatty too ๐Ÿ™‚

Probably not the kind of mag you're into.

The 26 HT was evidently the only bike equipped with white forks.

Cx [s]and road bikes[/s] have no place on an mtb forum

clearly you haven't ridden a cx bike down some twisty singletrack recently... bags of fun ๐Ÿ™‚ I even hit a nice tabletop and a little stepdown on friday night; was giggling like a schoolgirl.

Descending a rocky doubletrack reminded me of mountain biking back when I was 14 on my fully rigid marin ๐Ÿ™‚

They are all bikes, and therefore all fun. Try it, you might like it!

I can't speak for everyone but I trust the integrity and honesty of the tester completely, as I suspect does everyone who knows him.
I don't know the outcome, I have no vested interest, I have never read any of the other 29er "tests" done but I'll give this a fair crack of the whip.

๐Ÿ˜€

The winner of the main 'racer' category at Brownbacks on Sunday would beg to differ...
29'er Cannondale.
I don't think his tyre choice, pressures, riding ability or fitness had anything to do with it - purley the fact he was on a 29'er...... ๐Ÿ˜›

Great test but would love a photo.

People use to win XC races on FS bikes. They were paid to to sell more FS bikes

Now they win on 29ers. They are paid to to sell more 29er bikes

I think that races are mainly wone by fit people

That's great news! I'm doing the Lon Las Cymru with a couple of mates, they are on big wheeled skinny tyred bikes. I'm on a rigid forked HT with 26" 1.75 marathon plusses that weigh a ton. I'm so glad i'm gonna kick ass!!
