Just moved into a house with uPVC side opening windows which don't have any restrictors on them. Have two lively children who could well fall against an open window when playing so need some kind of retro fit mechanism which will prevent them emulating Tom Daly. Doesn't need to be child proof as they wouldn't try to open the windows if I tell them not to but does need to be strong, easy to fit and have the ability to open quickly by adult in case of emergency

seem to be loads of different things on the market - anyone have a favourite?

sorry - just realised posted in wrong forum - can i change it?

I'm afraid our window/blind/shutter expert has left the building.
I'm sure there'll be another one along soon to help out though.

As I said....

"seem to be loads of different things on the market - anyone have a favourite?"

there are 48 items on that link! I was wondering if people had experiance of a particular design that worked well

if they're the usual quadrilatteral hinges then could you not just drill into the tracks and put a screw in?

Doesn't solve the emergency criteria though.

That thought has occurred to me but I think i'd be happier with something I can open wide in an emergency - plus my windows have the easy clean system so that wouldn't work either.

I've just ordered a Jack Loc for the youngest one's bedroom as she has a bunk bed right by the window and these seemed to get good reviews

i have some that look very similar to the hook and stub ones.
they just screw onto the window profile. spring loaded and
locate automaticly and very easy to disengage. just pull the
window in alittle push the hook and the window will open all the
way. for short screws to fit very simple.
