Want a pair of XC/Trail tyres to deal with the greasy, hard, stone ridden, hawthorne ridden sussex downs.
Any ideas?

Mud-X are pretty popular darn sarf. Done me fine for a few winters around Brighton.
If you want soemthign a little larger look at Intense System 5's - not as good in thick mud but pretty good for general use.

Spesh Storms are the new Mud X's IMO, I ride North and South Downs.

I found all spesh tyres I've tried are too loose on the rim to run tubeless (if thats your bag) so use Mud X's with no probs*

Panaracer Trailraker PR?
Have used them in the Shire for a few winters without issue. Light, grippy and seem to fend off flats well.
