[#9786718]

Her not indoors has some shindig in Leeds in July so I'll have 3 days to kill riding 🙂

Can anyone recommend some good loops? I'd rather some all day rides as opposed to an 8 mile thrash.

Could even consider camping out if there is a bigger loop worth doing!

Mucho ta

MTB'ing get the hourly train to hebden bridge/sowerby/ todmordon choice of 10 rides in 'west yorkshire mountain biking' vertebrate book,

or if driving, park langsett and do cutgate and ladybower loop in a day, alot of climbing if you arent used to it, but a great great ride

Not a great time of year for Cutgate unless it's frozen.

Op, I don't know the Leeds area itself but you could do the Bingley Bash or something based on it. If you need any more information on this I will do my best. Email in my profile

It may be cold up here but it's not often frozen in July.

Bingley Bash or a variation of it with some added cheeky footpath is a good call.
And you can extend it up the other side of the valley to Shipley Glen/Baildon Moor or scoot along canal to take in Thackley, Esholt and Calverley. Or add in a loop of Ilkley Moor for a proper epic.

If you don’t mind a drive it’s not far to Nidderdale, great old classic route round the top end
Or
Malham from Skipton,
Or
Look up Wetherby Red Kite loops (s),

Depends how far you want to travel from Leeds, driving about an hour (about the time to get to Cut gate ish), you can cover quite a lot of the North from Leeds? Some Peaks, Calderdale, Yorkshire Dales, north York moors.

Around Leeds isn't there a marked trail, red kite possibly I think it's wetherby way? Also there's an Evans ride it event route on there website that's from Harewood house.

There is LOADS of great local hidden mostly cheeky singletrack but it's a bit of a PITA to string together if you're non-local. Nobody cares a monkeys about you riding it though. Let me know if you want me to sort you out some gpx (mail in profile)

Best options within an hour are I agree
- cut gate + north bits of peaks (all legal)
- calderdale (but again as per Leeds, the cheeky bits are the best bits)

also worth a shout is sutton bank area of NYM (legal)

As above posters have commented, depends how much driving you do / don't want to do

PS yorks dales can be great in an XC type of way, but is generally less tech. Ilkley moor has some superb technical riding, it's permitted on the BRadford council land, but you need to pick a quiet time 'cus it can get v.busy

Thanks all - I don't mind a bit of a drive, looks like I'll be staying apart from my wife so free to roam wherever to get in some great riding 🙂

Get the early train to Skipton or Settle and head out for a big Dales loop, returning via Ilkley? Then pub stops are an option...

Leeds to Pateley Bridge is about an hours drive, try the Scarhouse Reservoir loop.

You can park next to Gouthwaite Reservoir in like a nature reserve type car park, near Colt House Bridge (if you look on an os map you see where I mean) and start the ride from there. Ride up to Ramsgill village green and jump on the bridleway from there and just follow it round (you basically riding the side of the valley) until you are back onto the road near the activity centre, then over the stream and follow the road up to Middlemoor (this is a bit of a climb btw), up through the village and straight onto the BW again (as the road doesn’t go anywhere else), follow this track up to the moor and back down, it spits you out at Scarhouse Reservoir on a nice little descent, then cross over the reservoir and back up onto the BW to your right, which takes you along the other side of the valley basically and drops you back down into Bouthwaite which is right next to Ramsgill again. It’s ridable in all-weather as it’s mostly track (no moorland bogs!) and it’s a nice scenic route too on clear day, nothing overly exciting or technical but it’s one that you can get cracked on with and does offer some fast descents.

Go on to Strava, at the top click on Explore, then select Activity, then in the activity section search for Scarhouse Res Loop, it will bring all the routes around that area, the popular one is about 14 miles, called Scarhouse or Scarhouse Res Loop etc etc you'll see it's a circular. You can copy the GPX from any of those, or, plot and save your own on Strava but your best doing that by using Bing OS map as well. Anyway back to what I was saying, most start at Ramsgill but you can ride up to Ramsgill (as there's not really anywhere to park to be honest, as per my suggestion) its a 5 minute ride from the nature reserve cark park at Gouthwaite, you'll spot quite a few MTB vans parked in there so you can't miss it, so a nice little warm up before you start the ride. Or drop me your email address and I'll send you the GPX, no idea how to link it to this post.

Or you can do the same via RidewithGPS, here is a link to the same kind or search facility with the ride details if this helps at all. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/7166207

You can start from Pateley Bridge, or extend the loop northwards over Deadmans Hill if you want a longer ride.
