Where's the best (cheapest) place for spokes these days - plain guage, j bend.

Got some hubs & rims that need sticking together.

Sjs cycles have always been good for plain gauge spokes. Normally about £2 for 6.

Here you go...

I've built plenty of wheels using these - including ones on a tandem which are still going strong.

Cycle basket.

Why have plain gauge when you can have ACI Alpina doublebutted for 29p each.

What length? If by chance 298 I've a load of black Sapim race double butted from the superstar sell off that you can have cheap. Just sat in my wheel building box currently as I've switched to using dlights.

Spa Cycles was my go to place. They also did custom order cutting of spokes.

I was going through this a couple of weeks back, replacement spokes for 26" wheels. Wish I'd asked here, as SJS does seem to be the best bet.

In the end my LBS just gave me 2 old 26" wheels free, to dismantel and reuse the spokes from

I usually go to Bristol Spoke Co (formerly SpokesFromRyan). A good service, especially if you're after Sapim (not as good for DT Swiss).

Yep +1 for the Alpinas.

TBH there doesn't seem to be a "best place" any more, I just figure out what I want then go shopping. Last time I ended up getting a bit too into it and bought spokes from 3 different places, I think I was buying up half empty boxes or something but it worked out ridiculously cheap.

Picked up the free wheels which my LBS gave me in lieu of ordering the spokes I'd asked for. They're too long! So I shall be buying from one of these places - thanks for the recommendations

A fancier Website is just an extra overhead, and that would make their spokes more expensive...

I know. You obviously don't remember the old version. Ot was spectacular. This one is a significant improvement.

Why don't the ACI Alpina spokes get more love? Feels like most people default to Sapim or DT, and I include myself in that

https://pezcyclingnews.com/features/best-of-pez-the-alpina-spoke-factory/

Worth a read,it does go into that. Their marketing is described as italian.

In general i think they just aren't that fussed about advertising because all the big wheel manufacturers buy their spokes already.
