Going to be used for commuting and mild off road duties - any suggestions?

Would the decalthlon B'Twin Rockrider 5.2 be one of the the best value options?

Carrera range always good value too, good deal on the Vengeance (they do a womens specific one too) at the mo at £280 if budget will stretch to that... both my Dad and my Wife have Carrera bikes and have been pleased with both.

Specialized Myka should cost you about £250 if you haggle/shop around.
That's about what I paid for one for the Mrs last year. Full retail is about £350 I think.
