Im after a messenger bag for my commute to work.
What is the best bag avaliable?
Thanks
The Chrome one works for me, can fit laptop, change of clothes, lock etc. in comfortably and it fits snugly to the back. The quick release on the strap is great and will give hours of amusement to your colleagues as they try to make your bag fall off whe walking into the office.
Depends. Different people like / need different things. I use an Ortlieb dry bag rucsack that I got at a good price on EBay.
Got a Crumpler for sale....sorry blatant plug......limited use and a decent size see profile for price and pics
Crumpler are really well made and very waterproof.
Buy a Bagaboo and you won't regret it. They have the option of custom designs too.
the chrome bags hug your back and can be sweaty - good otherwise.
If you get a messenger bag that can rest on your lower back it won't be as sweaty.
Black rainbow project
Black Rainbow project, though Scott's waiting list is a little long
I was given a laptop to carry to work and back every day so bought a Pakuma, this one.
Nice enough bag with plenty of room for stuff but an absolute pita to ride with, not sure whether it's a crap design or just messenger bags in general.
My Timbuk2 has been beyond excellent. Others will say the same for theirs, many of which are twenty odd years old now!
Another vote for Bagaboo. Had my custom messenger a while now and love it. Waterproof, decent organistion and buckle/strap system, and plenty of custom options for not much extra.
Not a messenger style bag, but I've had boblbee megalopolis for 9 years now and its great. Hard shell outside and a laptop compartment inside. Very comfy too.
T-level
Timbuk 2 for me as well !
Have a look at Mission Workshop too. Mine is bulletproof.
Picked up an osprey messenger from Evans for £35. Love it, much better than a rucksack to.commute in. Not tested waterproofness yet. Big enough to fit my weeks kit in, shoes everything, very comfortable on the bike too.
Bagaboo, 7 years of commuting used everyday. Probably loaded up with around 15kg of gear. Still going strong.
Manhatten Portage.
Used for 52 years with a laptop (previously a typewriter), 3-piece suit and a flask.
Fits perfectly, better than any other near-identical bag.
10+ year old Timbuk 2 still works fine.
I like the build of the crumplers. Though I don't use it on the bike. I'd love a bagaboo, but can't justify it.
Slight hijack, if you got a custom one, let's see it.

Werks a mate of mine in Germany custom makes courier bags, hats and frame bags to order, whatever you fancy they will sort for you. He's an American so no problems with language!
Timbuk here too 10+ years, still in daily use
Another vote for Mission Workshop...
Having said that, I'll be getting a custom one built buy this guy...

10+ years for my Cactus Climbing Subductor.
It's got a few holes now, so might be time for something new.
So, custom Reload or Timbuk2 or off the shelf PAC, Mission Workshop or Chrome.
Or the original messenger bag, De Martini. They're quite cheap but light on features.

As if by magic ... 😉
My 20+ year old Timbuk2 bag has been excellent too. Everything from hauling work stuff in and out, doing the shopping, a couple of night's overnight junk, picking up motor-cycle parts, carrying bicycle wheels, camera gear - really whatever I've need it for at the time (on an' off the bike) ...
but it could do with a bloomin' good wash now that I look at it tho' 😕
I did find myself looking rather covetously at the trakke bags in this weeks FTF tho' ...
I've got a 15 year old Timbuk, which mile for mile is probably the best, most durable bit of kit I have ever bought.
But for a longer commute with a few hills in it, I bought an Alpkit Gourdon 20 backpack.
Depends on what you're carrying, but it's fantastic: super light, waterproof, visible and incredibly cheap at 20 quid.
