The best all mountain bike I have ever ridden is the Lapierre Zesty 314.

Whichever one Steve jones rode last, every bike that bloke reviews is the best ever.
If you can swing a leg over a few then, Specialized enduro, orange alpine 160, lapierre spicy, Commencal meta sx, yt wicked ltd, Santa cruz nomad, nicolai etc loads out there and your post was vague in what your requirements are, test ride as many as you can.

Out of the main contenders it's harder to pick a bad one than a good one. I recommend <bike I own> and strongly dislike <bike I have only read reviews of>.

But joking aside, I love my Hemlock, adding a slackener headset made it the best bike I've ridden. Alpine 160 also impressed me, as did the Enduro- I'd want to test a current Evo version. YT Wicked is absurd value, if you don't like the frame you can sell it for a pound and still have a good deal.

Don't judge by travel either, some bikes make more out of 140mm than others do with 160mm.

Do you just need a frame, or are you looking for a full bike for the £1500? If the latter, then that does narrow your options considerably, unless you go second hand. New, there are a few 160mm bikes starting around £1700-£1800, and if you widen your search to include 150mm travel and/or up your budget towards £2000, then there are a lot of good options.

For that money a Canyon Nerve AL+6

Edit: 0nly 150mm

Your going to struggle getting something with 160mm for that money.

Strive AL 7 is £1849

sorry for the late reply...

was on holiday..

150mm would be ok. need a big bike being 6ft 5.

ideally id like a full build. rather than a frame and shock.

140 would also be a option but a XL is a defo i guess at 6ft 5

Do you have any other bikes? Like a hardtail?

If so you could always go with a 160mm mini-dh bike and leave trail centre's for the hardtail...or bung some lighter wheel/tyre combo's on at a later date. Here's a Large/XL Commencal Supreme 6 for 1600 quid.

This is cracking for the money and I think we're getting some more of the xl in this month. Iv just got one got bored waiting for my 2013 norco to arrive and it's amazing. Climbs better than my hardtail and weighs less. The only bad things are the avids but I just diss like avids.
