[#12013954]

I'm looking for a GPS computer for my nephew.

Budget ~£75

Standard functions like distance, time elapsed etc plus GPS route tracking and maybe following GPX directions (Phone connectivity via App would be nice too)

Does such a thing exist?

Or would it be better to use an high quality App on his Android phone?

Garmin Edge 25 - discontinued now but maybe track one down, if not then Lezyne mini, both will only do breadcrumb navigation - edge 25 screen is bigger and easier to read.

check out bryton, they may not be as good as a wahoo or a garmin but in terms of features vs value they are hard to beat.

My lightly used suunto watch cost that. Trail of bread crumbs navigation works fine but can only work via a pc

2nd hand wahoo bolt 1st gen go for less than £100 ish maybe less now 2nd gen are out. Absolutely brilliant bit of kit.

But your phone does most things anyway, it depends on how long your riding for and if your bothered about a big phone mounted to your bars?

Garmin edge 25 breadcrumb is ok for navigation on road - but not great off road where it's easy to end up on the wrong path.

A Xoss g+ does everything other than navigation for less than £40. I've tried using breadcrumb navigation and for me it was a waste of time without a proper map.

A Meilan unit does that for about £20. It feels a bit plasticy but mine has been faultless for 18 months despite a cycle in the washing machine.

It gets a position virtually instantly, has great battery life, connects to ant+ hrm and power sensors and measures pretty much anything you want. Will apparently connect to strava through the phone but I've never used this.

A while ago I got a secondhand Edge Touring for about £60 or so... it's been pretty decent so far although it doesn't connect to a phone or anything fancy like that, but does have a reasonable screen with maps etc...

Still supported by Garmin too as I've just updated it to the latest 2021 maps.

Xoss for ride recording. Cheapo small phone for mapping/route.
