My friend brought over his Boardman HT last night to look at a creaking headset. Having cleaned and greased it, I set about aligning the front wheel and stem. Do you think I could get them straight?!
Anyway - the long and short is...the wheel doesn't sit straight in the fork. It's nearer to the left fork than the right. Additionally, when you brake, the wheel notably "pulls" further to the left.
I thought the wheel may be out of dish, but put it in back to front (rotor on the wrong side), and the issue remains. It still sits nearer to the left fork. I tried with my own wheel on his bike. Same issue.
To the naked eye, the fork appears ok. It also compresses ok and the mechanics seem to be fine.
He's not crashed the bike ever and although he's about 15 stone, doesn't get air or do anything beyond what a HT should be used for - other than perhaps a weekend at Afan.
Fork is a Rockshox Reba. Anyone know what this could be? Bent or slightly twisted lowers? Or just an unevenly finished drop out?
Thanks
weren't there some casting issues with RS forks a while back?
Yes, pretty sure Rebas were the main suspect too.
I guess that is sort of reassuring in that it may well be a warranty job. Thanks guys.
