Is it possible to do this? the cranks are lx hollowtech 2 and are about 5 years old. I noticed that the outer chain ring had a slight wobble, about 2mm, but put it down to old bent chain rings. I have now fitted the cranks to a new frame with new chain rings and it has the same issue. I have folded over and snapped some outer rings in the past, could this have bent the arms?
Or is it that i have fitted the rings wrong or a bent axle? the bb cups are in okay and the bb is faced so i think that is straight. Any ideas?
It's possible. I've known it before. Difficult to get perfect. I even put a HT2 in a lathe at work by clamping the axle but you can't get into the outer mounting faces very easily. I put it back on the bike & did it by eye in the end. Dropped the front mech down a bit as a guide. Few gentle taps with a mallet. You get a simmillar problem radially on singlespeeds, just a case of clamping loosely, then tapping around the ring to centralise it.
