One of the most disappointing routes I have ever done, 5000 ft of climbing for very little reward. The only good bit is the descent into Glen Tilt only to turn down the glen knowing that some of the best single track around is just up the glen. So wanted to ride up to get in that classic Glen tilt single track but was too tired after a the slog round Ben a Ghlo. Still great scenery and weather. This route needs good nav skills so as to avoid missing the track round carn breac.

Do you mean this route? http://www.stirlingbikeclub.org.uk/ride/mtb/bienn_aghlo.shtml

It must have been particularly bad for you to register just to post that!

You did it anti-clockwise then? We found the last bit really disappointing, but only because the rest of the ride was great! We did it in summer though ๐Ÿ™‚

Phew - restored my confidence there Kit. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Planning on doing this one in the next couple of months, probably clockwise. Having walked around there before, I'm not expecting huge drops and sculpted berms, just a nice day out in the hills.

Not sure I'd enjoy it clockwise - from what I remember, our climbs were on landy track, and descents on single/doubletrack, apart from the 15k track (or whatever distance it is) back down Glen Tilt. However... post up again nearer the time as I'd probably still be interested ๐Ÿ™‚

Do you live in the Alps Spando? You must have high standards if you're disappointed with the Beinn a Ghlo circuit.

I sense a plan coming together... I'll post back within the next couple of months - will give it a wee bit longer to dry out / snow to disappear.

I've done it both ways and prefer it anti-clockwise.
(I am also responsible for the write-up that Pixelmix linked too).

Anticlockwise gives you a lot of height gain on tarmac at the start and I prefer it for this reason. The ride down to the river crossing is also very sweet

A lot depends on how comfortable you are riding technical stuff, how boggy it is (makes clockwise a slog to Fealar Lodge) and the wind direction in Glen Tilt. Each to their own though.

Agree with Pixelmix that it's just a great day out in stunning scenery, with a great bit of descent from Fearlar to Tarf. Agree that anticlockwise is best. Huge amounts of frost heave on the tracks ATM so would want it to dry out a lot before doing it this year. Would also be up for doing it again if there's a get together

It is a great day out on the hills was epecting more from the single track thats all. Love rides like carn ban mor and glen tilt. It was fairly tedious as most of the descending tracks are north facing and still had snow also were tight for time so had to get the head down. I should go ride it again in the summer as it is amazing scenery. Anyone done the ben alder route? The descent is meant to be great?
