I'm after some 6001 bearings, I know they'll need to be 2RS, but a quick scan suggests that some are better than others.

Do I follow my nose and go for rubber sealed SKF's, or do I go for stainless steel? Deep groove, or not deep groove? Full compliment? ceramic is still a little out of the price range.

The price ranges from under a quid, to over £5. What's better to go for? any I should look out for or avoid?

My tip is to check they have enough grease in before putting them in. Loads of ball race bearings come almost dry(they are normally used in equipment not subject to the MTB mud jet-wash etc)... I never bother with ceramic. SKFs are very good. I understand stainless bearings are slightly softer...still most important thing is GREASE. The BETD website gives advice on it i think...otherwise call them up as they are very helpful...

Not a cheap option, but the labyrinth sealed bearings that Royce-UK use are very good.(6001 size used in their mid flange hub)
