Looking at doing a bit of racing next year and doing quite a few events. Do i need a British Cycling Racing License?
nope
It'll be cheaper in the long run as you won't pay day licence fees. Silver membership and a licence I think will be your cheapest for road, and I think Bronze covers you for closed circuits.
If you race on the road you will need a license. Most mtb races don't require a BC license - the exception to this is the BMBS where you would require a race license to enter.

Depends what type of racing you intend to do and how much.
More infomation please.
All MTB, no road stuff. Would be mainly stuff like kielder 100, CRC MTB Marathon Series, Bontrager Twentyfour12, D2D, maybe some XC Series.
Cheers
A racing licence is of no use whatsoever for any of those, so I wouldn't worry!
You only need a racing licence in order to race above Sport and to gain ranking points in ranked events such as the NPS/BMBS series, Southern/Scottish/Midlands/Dragon XC events and to be eligible to win National or Regional Championship races.
Not worth getting a licence for that lot, probably don't need one anyway.
you don't "need" a licence and nor do you "need" to be a BC member, but IMO it's a very good thing to have. I buy silver membership and licence, get the inclusive insurance cover and happy that my funds help the sport.
Cool, thats good news then
Cheers everyone
For XC MTB races you need a licence if you're competing at Expert or Elite level but not for Sport/Fun etc. For National Series events you can do one without a licence (you pay extra on the day), if you want to do more then you need a licence.
For enduro/24hr stuff you don't need a licence, the exception is if you're competing in the 24hr Solo Championships which starts next year.
For road racing you need a licence. You can buy a day licence but it quickly works out as very expensive. Entry level closed road races and most cyclo-cross can be done on a Provisional licence which you get automatically when you buy a basic membership.
BC membership gives you good insurance anyway, it's well worth having for that alone. Also gives extra discounts at Wiggle and various extra members-only bits on the website.

That makes sense for the BC membership to get cover, I'd totally agree with you, particularly since benefiting from it, but I would recommend against a racing licence if you're not going to do any eligible races, it's a waste of money, simple as.
Didn't know about the Wiggle discount! How do you claim that!?

Log into the BC website using your licence no and password. There's a portal there to take you through to Wiggle which automatically applies an extra discount. ๐
How exciting!

Yeah, I keep forgetting to use it! There are click-through's to discounts on other (potentially less useful) stuff as well - it's not that well advertised....
