hi all am i right in supposing that: The press-in BBs, as in the ones on some Lapierres are the same axle diameter as a normal HT2 chainset? And a BB30 is also press-in but larger diameter? or are they one and the same?

Is the press-in standard shopfit only or are there some reasonably priced tools to do the job?

cheers!

BB30 are fantastic. I have one on my Scalpel. The bearings cost about £4 (per pair) to renew. The axel is 30mm dia, the bearing is 30mmID, 42mmOD, 7mm wide. No special tools at all are required, just a mallet and a piece of wood to drift the old ones out.

Chainset (mine is SI Cannondale) feels brill, much better than XT or XTR.

The bearings/cups pushed into the lapierre were originally designed for road bikes by shimano. The MTB lapierre has them set a little further apart (due to the wider MTB cranksets) but it essentially replicates a HT2 bb setup. BB30 is a cannondale designed standard that put bigger bearings into the frame, they are placed closer together in a bigger BB shell, totally different standard to the lapierre.

I've got BB30 on my Whyte 19 Ti (FSA K-force light) it seems very stiff, but its too early to say how long its going to last as I've only done 300 miles so far.
