Shoot me but I'm going to get some. Looking for something along the lines of this shape as I don't like the sticky uppy type. Any other recommendations?

I use an old pair of x lite stubbies for
Long distance rides-really nice to have a bit more flexibility in terms of hand position.

Sticky uppy type? What are those?

I use KCNC ones - light and reasonably cheap - set up horizontal to the ground which I find gives a nice position. I've ridden the bike without them for a bit and really miss the change in position.

I think Specialized P1 or similar might suit as well - look similar.

Pleased to see this thread as I've been going through the following dilema myself.
As one of the early adopters of bar ends (onza quill type, BITD) I missed the extra hand position on long, mile munching rides.
When I got my 29er I added some Spesh overendz bar ends which were very comfy.

The only downside was the stock flat bars became 650mm (were 700mm) with them and it felt narrow compared to my other mtb. Also, while that other mtb had a rear brake issue (yes, avid) the 29er did everything so I though removing the bar ends would widen the bar / assist with making it more flickable, etc.

The bar felt better wider but the back sweep left my wrists sore. Then I got a deal on the lowest rise fatbar lite (same as on the other mtb but different rise) so snapped them up.

The ride is good / no wrist issues but I still miss the bar ends.

So, for the OP, I'd say have a look at Spesh overendz - they even do lovely carbon ones!

As a bit of thread hijack, anyone got any pics of bar ends on a low rise bar?
(I'm thinking fashion no no but my 29er, in my wife's words, looks like a horse so not sure asthetics matter at then!)

I don't use any bar ends anymore, but Cane Creek Ergos used to do the trick for me.

If you like having your grips parallel to the bike, consider a dropbar.

I used to use titec carbon car ends and always found them a nice feel in my hands i see there are quite a lot of modern copies of this now.

I tried the cane creek ergos but found the hand position a bit odd for me and i never really took to them.

Overendz are what I had in mind - in fact they seem to be called P1 Over Endz http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/p1-over-endz-bar-ends-ec008421
The only downside was the stock flat bars became 650mm (were 700mm) with them and it felt narrow compared to my other mtb. The Ergos do take up a little bit of bar space, but they also act as the outer lock-on ring if you have the standard (ODI-style) lock-ons, so you may not lose so much.

Cane Creek Ergos for years for me too.

Not used them since I got a new race bike last year, but on a lengthy fireroad climb recently I found my hands trying to move back to where they would have been - it can really help to have an alternate position for your hands. Maybe I'll buy some more.

Thanks scotroutes - I'm running spesh xc lock on's that only have an inner lock ring.

With the Renthal's being 740mm I thought I might get the best of both World's but only ever see bar ends on flat bars.
