Genuine question, not a moan.
mrs julian has ordered a frame, paid £500 up front and rest organised via the shop's finance. Their (in my experience very accurate) website showed it as in stock when she rang up to order, she was then quoted 2-3 weeks as they and the distributor were out of stock. The shop took her £500 and 2 weeks after the order was placed she rang up to ask, now they say more like another 6-8 weeks.
Neither of us have ever ordered anything that wasn't in stock and despatched straight away. Is it usual for the shop to be sat on £500?
-On the one hand i though you weren't supposed to be charged on debit card transactions until goods were dispatched.
-On the other hand the shop doesn't want to order in a grand's worth of frame only to find customer has changed mind. (mind you, shop in question is massive and shifts tons and tons of the brand in question).
Your thoughts please.
think they have 28 days from taking payment to despatch goods so they are in breach of contract.
You could ask for a refund and go elsewhere or, I guess, ask them to refund until frame arrives and then take it again?
Another 6-8 weeks is a long time
Also if they go bankrupt with your cash are you protected?
(Did she pay by credit card)
Id be unhappy too
£500 that's one hell of a deposit.
Drac - Moderator£500 that's one hell of a deposit.
Could have got the whole lot on 0% finance: she chose to pay £500 as she had it to spend, it's just she expected to have a shiny frame to ride in 3 weeks not 10-12 weeks.
Mrs j rang the shop again this morning, and they were fine about giving all her deposit bar 10% deposit back. So now we can spend it on curry, beer and so on, and then save it up again in the time it will take the frame to arrive.
Apparently the guy was an absolute gentleman over the phone, and money returned to her account a short while later. So sort of good service then really...
