My son is 4 and enjoys a lap of the blue trail at Moors Valley.
How do the trails a Avon Tyrrell compare?
For reference his legs aren't strong enough for the climbs on the Blue at Swinley yet.
You could race him down the jump track 🙂
I've only ridden the trails at the BBB - think the'd be tough for a kid as they're unsurfaced. But then again, that's probably stuff only used for the races.
Or there's the shore
Tell me more about Avon Tyrell - didn't know you could access the trails? Can you just pitch up and pay a day ticket? Can you get on the 'interesting' bits with the kids as mine would be up for the North Shore bits..
Moors Valley is very tame compared to Swinley blue anyway - mine started that about 6, when they could ride 20" geared bikes, and even then I usually had to scoop them up some of the hills.
We're just about to do a load of repairs to the trail at Moors valley. Quite a few sections very wet and the surface has gone really bad. The contract is being drawn up this week to start during march.
We did some work last yr and despite gears fencing during the works people rode the new trails the same day whilst still wet and wrecked them. Got to go back and re-do some sections this yr at quite a cost.
Please please keep off the newly repaired sections if the heras is still up. We're spending serious cash fixing it for everyone.
Crazy but its also a full time job dealing with Straaaaaaava cheat lines. You're only cheating yourself....!
Check the website if you're planning a special visit to MV.
When does that work start @burko73? Planning on going on Friday if AT is not suitable.
Yeah read the site - but is it just turn up, park and pay to play? Costs are there but not 100% clear as its an outdoor activity center, can the public access it at all times - it's a bit over an hour for me so I wouldn't want a wasted trip with a van full of over excited boys!
I occasionally make an hours of darkness visit to Moors valley for a quick whip around if I'm down that way after work.
I've noticed the strava/desire lines are getting worse, even over the course of 2017.
Just so I know, what are the planned dates of work?
Any chance you will be improving / adding to any of the trails? I don't know if this is in your remit or control. I know it's never going to be that interesting but the current route seems to go out of its way to avoid any of the limited gradient around there and is not very flowy ( not even a word!?). I feel like moors valley could be more than it is and there is clearly a demand by the number of people on MTBs you see there.
Thecurrent trails are more green than blue imo, but good for allowing green level access to just about anyone who can ride a bike.
Well done on the hard work of maintaining the current trails.
Funny you see some proper bikes there. The trail used to be good and flows but is a bit worn out hence the repair work.
I have put some cash 8n the budget to do some extensions to the trail over the next few yrs. the site team have set up an mtb volunteer group but they need a bit of resource to get it going properly ie some staff time really. Budget will be for some trail design and plans and for some materials. There’s some places on the trail we could do some inter3sting additional loops where there are some gradients. It’s never going to be bpw but with a bit of help there is someth8ng worth pursuing.
Its just a shame the site team have to spend all their time showing up the strava cut throughs instead of building more trails.
Have a look at the Facebook page. I think the site team were trying to manage the volunteering through there. Get involved if you have some time/skills/ resources.
Not got a start start date yet but the work will prob start early March. Hopefully it’ll have dried out a bit by then.
I like to ride it on a fully rigid bike but you see lots of enduro sleds there as well. Sort of think being over biked spoils it a bit.
If an enduro bike is your only bike, that's what you'd use I guess.
I tend to ride there on an aggro longtravel hardtail. If I had a rigid, that would be better for there.

Damn right if you mean MV - rigid SS for me
Mind, haven't been for a couple of years, maybe it's well gnar these days !
Burko, do you have a link to the volunteer page. I can't find anything on the main MVCP facebook page.
I only live down the road from there and use it fairly regularly so could give up some time a couple of times a month on Saturday afternoons or Sundays to help maintain/build the trails
