Some arsebiscuit on here is trying to talk me into doing 600km audaxes on two consecutive weekends. Is it a stupid idea to even consider doing such a thing?

Why stop on weekdays? You could be 2000 km away from here in ten days time! That would be nice.

Depends really - how prepared are you etc.

Which events are you considering? I have folishly entered the Derby South then North in a few weeks. Until a few weeks ago 200 was my furthest but now done a 300 to Skegness.

Depends doesn't it.

If you do PBP or LEL you're doing that sort of mileage without any break at all.

Personally - I think you're mad. On the other hand why not try it.

(Disclaimer - only ever marshalled the final control on a 600km, and what a state they were in!)

Sounds good O-T - mine is pretty flat and 'easy' being in the east of England between Peterborough and the Humber Bridge.

Speaking in my capacity as someone who's done both the PBP and long distance audaxes (600, 400, 300, etc) I'd say that even one 600 (or a 400) on only one weekend would be a waste of valuable lifetime you'll never get back. Just go mountaining biking both weekends with your friends, you'll have a much better, more social, & more enjoyable time and you'll be able to walk and function properly for the rest of your week. Life is too short for silly non-stop longer distance audaxes - Fact 😉

PS If you do decide to follow your friend's foolhardy, looked good on paper, advice then buy a bumper tub of Sudocream, take it with you and spread it thick! (Though not so thick that it oozes out of your shorts and causes looks of horror & mistrust from members of the general public)

and of course it does depends where you do these long distance rides ... tend to be circuits of the cairngorms largely for me ... althought this weekend sees me riding from tain to durness to tongue and back to tain , then a lap of the blackisle on sunday ....

Sounds like a good idea to me though 🙂
