[Closed] At what stage is a rear mech dead?

There is a fair bit of play in my rear mech and the bottom jockey wheel is very spiky. JUst wondered whether it is worth getting a replacement jockey wheel or just getting a new mech.

How much play is too much play in the mech?

If it still shifts sweet, I would just change the wheel.

If it's XT or above, with the expensive sealed Jockey wheels, just get some bog standard Shimano wheels as the sealed ones will probably outlast the Mech.

Shortly after its launched itself into your rear wheel.
until that point it's ok.

Sounds like a new jockey wheel is the best move at the moment then.

Cheers

my rear mech has a bit of play but i fell off and thats what caused it, i need a new one but it still shifts fine, its better off just getting the most out of it until u really need a new one when its not shifting at all ๐Ÿ™‚

Ask nicely on here for a spare jockey wheel and then use it for a bit longer. If its still shifting then it's still working so don't fix what's not broken.
